Needs Statement

A grant will provide the funding necessary to bring the Dialed Action Sports Program to our school, youth organization or municipality. The mission of the program is “to inspire students to find an active and healthy passion and use their desire to constantly improve as a means to keep themselves focused, healthy and on a path for success”. By modeling behavior and through example, the Professional Cyclists of Dialed Action Sports focus the presentation on prevention, as related to areas where youth may not be resilient to at-risk behaviors.

At risk behaviors that schools or youth organizations may choose from:

  • Anti-Bullying
  • Anti Substance Abuse
  • Bicycle/Sports Safety
  • Healthy Choices

Youth today are bombarded by mixed message from friends, social media, television, Internet, and music ~ often confusing themselves further about appropriate behaviors. Dialed Action Sports has been successful in working in collaboration with schools and youth-serving non-profit organizations in connecting with these youth on multiple levels with the relevance and significance of its message.

Project Description

The Dialed Action Sports Youth Programs were developed to inspire children to find an active, healthy passion and use their desire to constantly improve as a means for keeping their lives on track, making healthy decisions, and surrounding themselves with like- minded friends. The program got its start in 2010 when Dialed Action partner Chris Clark was asked to perform and speak at a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program hosted at a NJ school. He was asked to discuss with the students how he focused so intently on his passion and avoided risky behaviors. The presentation was a tremendous success with not only the students, but also with their parents, teachers and the Police Department organizing the event. Since that first presentation, the Dialed Action Sports Team has conducted over 1,200 performances and over 300,000 youth have been engaged by their incredible skills display and inspired by their message.

The Dialed Action Sports Youth Programs largely benefits youth ages 6 to 18. There are four main points presented in the program:

  1. Anti-Bullying: Encouraging children to support their classmates and peers in their chosen pursuits. How to deal with being bullied or witnessing bullying situations.
  2. Anti-Substance: Preventing youth from using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco by educating them on how it negatively affects their body and performance in sports.
  3. Bicycle Safety: The importance of bike and sports safety by using a helmet and other safety gear when riding or participating in other sports.
  4. Healthy Lifestyle: Encouraging youth to engage in an active lifestyle that helps to prevent childhood obesity and stressing the importance of finding friends who support your healthy lifestyle and avoiding those who detract from that goal.

Program Length

The Dialed Action Sports Youth Programs are comprised of a single event that lasts for approximately forty minutes. The first 10-12 minutes of the event involves a discussion and stories concerning the merits of bike and sports safety and living a healthy lifestyle. During the remaining time of the program the youth enjoy the bicycle stunt performance and have the opportunity to speak with cyclist(s) personally and benefit from the one-to-one interaction.

Evaluations

To evaluate the impact of the program, youth may be given a short pre-questionnaire prior to the presentation that relates to current behaviors on the selected assembly topic.

After the performance section the youth may be given a post-questionnaire to determine what they learned about area of discussion and what they will now do differently as related to the discussed behaviors.

Dialed Action Sports can work with you to formulate appropriate questionnaires.
